CHANGING A DIRTY DIAPER:
*

1. Wash your hands.
Clean and dry hands thoroughly

2. Check Diaper.
Without removing the diaper, gently pull it away from the baby's skin and look into the diaper to see if it is soiled.

3. Gather changing supplies.
Supplies/materials should be within arm's reach of changing area.

4. Pick up baby and gently place him/her on diaper table, or flat changing surface.
NOTE: If you do not have a covered diaper table, it is recommended you cover the changing surface with a towel or plastic throw.

5. Entertain baby.
This step is optional, but strongly recommended...A HAPPY BABY IS AN EASIER-TO-CHANGE BABY!

6. Undress baby.
If clothing is soiled, place aside to be washed.

7. Undo tabs on dirty diaper.

8. Lift baby's bottom off changing surface by holding both of his/her feet with one hand.
Hold on to both legs with one hand.

9. Remove dirty diaper and ROLL IT UP.
Slide the diaper away from the baby.
Carefully roll the dirty diaper, making sure all waste remains inside it, and place the rolled up diaper on the side of the changing surface OUT OF BABY'S REACH.

10. Grab wipes and wipe baby's bottom clean.
NOTE: It is very important to wipe girls from front to back, and boys from back to front (boys can be wiped either way, but it is easier to do it from back to front).
